At what age can an individual be assessed for an APD?

An APD assessment can be performed on any individual over the age of 6 years. Children younger than this are not able to be formally tested, however we are still able to ask certain questions which gives us an indicator as to the child’s listening difficulties and from this make recommendations for various strategies to use and assist the child in the short term. Referral to other allied health professionals such as Speech Therapists or Occupational Therapists may also be beneficial in the earlier stages to support the child’s learning development.

APD assessments can be performed on individuals up to any age however the earlier an APD is diagnosed, the better the remediation outcomes are in terms of the neuroplasticity of the brain and the appropriateness of some of the remediation programs.
