Tympanometry

Tympanometry is a test Audiologists use to measure the movement of the ear drum and can quickly identify if fluid is trapped behind the ear drum, if there is negative middle ear pressure or if there are other pathologies or conditions of the middle ear. The test is non-invasive, does not hurt or cause any pain and takes a few seconds to perform on each ear.

If fluid is present or any other middle ear pathology is identified, the Audiologist will refer you back to your GP for medical treatment or referral on to an ENT (if required). The Audiologist can also use this test to monitor the function of the middle ear following any treatment.
